What Are Some Common Screw Material Types?

Common screw material types mainly include carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum alloy, copper and copper alloys, and titanium alloys. Different materials correspond to different performance characteristics and applicable scenarios.

 

1. Carbon Steel

Characteristics: High strength, low cost, the most widely used screw material.

Classification: According to carbon content, it is divided into low-carbon steel (such as ML08AL), medium-carbon steel (such as No. 35 steel), and alloy steel (such as SCM435 chromium-molybdenum steel), with strength increasing in that order.

Applications: Widely used in machinery manufacturing, construction installation, and other fields. Surface treatments such as galvanizing and blackening are usually used to enhance rust resistance.

 

2. Stainless Steel

Characteristics: Corrosion resistant, oxidation resistant, can be used in harsh environments without additional coatings.

Common Models:

SUS304: Austenitic stainless steel, good corrosion resistance, suitable for indoor and outdoor structural components.

SUS316: Contains molybdenum, stronger resistance to chloride corrosion, suitable for marine or chemical environments.

Applications: High-requirement applications such as medical devices, shipbuilding, building curtain walls, and food processing equipment.

 

3. Aluminum Alloys

Characteristics: Low density (approximately 2.7 g/cm³), lightweight, corrosion-resistant, but lower strength than steel.

Common grades: 5052, 6063, 7075, etc., with 7075 having higher strength, approaching that of ordinary steel.

Applications: Aerospace, high-speed trains, lightweight bicycle components, etc.

 

4. Copper and Copper Alloys

Characteristics: Good electrical and thermal conductivity, corrosion-resistant, aesthetically pleasing, but lower strength.

Classification:

Pure Copper: Excellent electrical conductivity, soft texture, mostly used for electrical connections.

Brass (Copper-Zinc Alloy): Good machinability, commonly used for decorative parts, valves, and electronic equipment.

Bronze (such as tin bronze and phosphor bronze): High strength and elasticity, suitable for manufacturing precision parts such as spring washers.

Applications: Electrical equipment, precision instruments, high-end decorative parts, etc.

 

5. Titanium Alloy

Characteristics: High strength, lightweight, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, excellent overall performance, but expensive.

Applications: Aircraft structures, racing car engines, high-end medical implants, and other extreme working environments.
